Annual Meeting Scheduled for July 1!
The LPA Annual
Meeting will take place on July 1 at the
Fryeburg Fair Fiber Barn. Follow the Green
balloons! Agenda items will include updates
on invasive plant testing, enhanced water
testing of the Pond in collaboration with
the Saco River Corridor Commission, the
Normandeau Associates study of Wards Brook
and the Wards Brook outlet wetlands, lake
policing, and administrative matters
Fryeburg
Aquifer Resource Committee (FARC)
The Emery and Garrett report on the Wards
Brook Aquifer is viewable on the Town Web
Site (http://www.fryeburgmaine.org).
One of its key recommendations was for a
detailed analysis of the impact of Ward
Brook flows on Lovewell Pond. The amount of
these flows could be considered the
“trigger” for Planning Board regulations of
withdrawals.
Lake Studies
Under Way!
Normandeau
Associates has begun the study of Wards
Brook and the wetlands at the mouth of the
brook, sponsored by the Fryeburg Aquifer
Resource Committee. The study was
recommended by the Emery and Garrett
analysis of the Wards Brook Aquifer, to
provide the Planning Board with base line
information on desirable limitations on
withdrawals. The study will look at the
biota and fauna in the brook and wetlands,
and seek to determine what, if any impact
the withdrawals might have. In other
related ground water matters, the Fryeburg
Planning Board has scheduled a public
hearing on an improved water protection
ordinance for July 10 at the Town Hall.
Invasive Plant
Funding Renewed
The Lakes
Environmental Association has granted LPA
another $2000 to support invasive plants
inspections at the Fish and Wildlife ramp at
the south end of the lake. Inspections
began in late May.
